Special Envoy for Drought Response Abdirahman Abdishakur and Qatar Ambassador to Somalia Hassan bin Hamza visits Gedo region to observe the humanitarian situation.

Somalia’s Special Envoy for Drought Response and high delegation have on Monday arrived in Gedo region to assess the humanitarian situation on the ground. Abdirahman Abdishakur accompanied by Qatar Ambassador to Somalia Hassan bin Hamza visited Baardhere district. During the visit they witnessed the distribution of food aid donated by Qatar Charity. Abdishakur called on the Somali people and international donors, to play a significant role in mitigating the drought by contributing to the response efforts as the funding gap and the magnitude of the crisis continues to grow wider.   Since his appointment by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, the Special Envoy has been traversing various parts of Somalia to assess the effect of the ongoing devastating drought and the humanitarian response needed. Gedo region is one of the worst regions affected adversely by the ongoing drought in the Horn of Africa Nation. Somalia is grappling with the worst drought in decades following the failure of four consecutive rainy seasons.
