President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud lays a wreath at Daljirka Dahsoon in Mogadishu

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has laid a wreath of flowers at the Daljirka-Dahsoon Statue (Tomb of the Unknown Soldier).one of the city's popular landscapes, to sing the national anthem in the capital Mogadishu. President Mohamud laid the wreath on Friday, July 1 while leading the country in commemoraing the 62nd anniversary of gaining independence. The President has begun discharging his national duties after five days of being in isolation following the diagnosis of COVID-19 with him. Mohamud announced on Friday 24th that he had tested positive for coronavirus upon returning from UAE where he had been for official working visit. However, tests carried on him on Wednesday showed negativity to the global virus and thus necessitating his resumption to Presidential functions. The southern regions of the country gained their independence in 1960. The same year, the south and north united to form one country. The Head of State had last night attended celebrations to mark the independence day. High dignitaries from the Somali government and its partners graced the occasion. The celebrations were marked at the National theatre in Mogadishu.
