Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management delivers food aid to vulnerable families in El-Wak district, Gedo region
Somali government has today delivered food aid to families in ElWak district, Gedo region. A plane carrying food aid and a high delegation from the federal government including the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Khadijo Diriye landed at El-Wak airstrip, in Gedo region, on Wednesday morning. The food is expected to be distributed to vulnerable families affected by the ongoing devastating drought in the Internally Displaced camps. Gedo region is one of the worst drought affected areas that has even caused death of human lives. The worst ever drought has hit the Horn of Africa Nation which had been grappling with myriad of other challenges including Al-Shabab insurgency. Humanitarian agencies have sounded warning that the humanitarian situation could escalate if the rains fail to come saying that more than 7 million people, about half of the population, are in need of food aid.
