Unknown assailants kill a prominent elder in Beledweyne town, Hirshabelle State

Unknown gunmen have shot dead a traditional elder in the town of Beledweyne on Friday night. The victim who was identified as Ali Moalim was accosted and killed him thereafter by a group of assailants who fled from the scene after committing the assassination. Police officers who arrived at the scene immediately launched a manhunt for the assailants in Hiraan's regional capital. Moalim reported to have participated in the recently concluded parliamentary elections where he was among elders selecting electoral delegates for Somalia's Lower House. This is not the first an elder is killed in Beledweyne town, several other elders had been assassinated for participating in the elections by the Al-Shabaab militant group. However, No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
