Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble witnesses the handing over of 9.6 M from UAE for Humanitarian response
Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has on Thursday witnessed the handing over of $ 9.6 million cash donated by UAE to support the ongoing emergency to the drought affected people in the country. The Gulf Arab Nation donated the funds a few weeks ago to support drought and humanitarian response efforts in Somalia. The PM thanked the UAE government for supporting the ongoing emergency response efforts in Somalia, which is grappling with the worst drought in four decades. United Nations says some 6.1 million people roughly 40 percent of the entire population have been severely affected and 760 000 people have fled their homes. Humanitarian organisations have sounded a warning that without a significant increase in aid, Somalia could soon face the kind of famine witnesses in the country in 2011 when 260 000 people died due to hunger.
