Cabinet approves appointment of Mahad Salat as the Country's NISA boss.
The Cabinet has on Thursday approved the nomination of Mahad Salat as the new director of country’s National Security and Intelligence Agency replacing Yassin Abdullahi Farey was in an acting capacity since September 2022 after Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble dismissed Fahad Yassin. Fahad failed to produce a comprehensive report as sought by the PM on the whereabouts of the allegedly "dead" spy agent Ikran Tahlil Farah who was abducted at the intelligence Headquarters in July 2021. However, former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo reinstated Yassin and declared the sacking of the PM illegal and unconstitutional. Farmaajo and Roble in an agreement later endorsed the decision to appoint Yassin Farey as the acting Director until a substantive Director is picked. The nomination of was approved during weekly Cabinet meeting with formal appointment to be made by the president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in the coming days. If the President approves his nomination, Mahad who is a member of the Lower House will loose his seat automatically. NISA has been severally lampooned for bring spates of killings and abduction witnessed in the Horn of Africa Nation that is reeeling from decades of civil war.
