Senate Speaker Abdi Hashi Abdullahi meets with EU Special Envoy Annette Wamber.

Senate Speaker Abdi Hashi Abdullahi has on Wednesday received in his office, European Union Special Envoy for Horn of Africa Mrs. Annette Wamber accompanied by Ambassador of EU to Somalia Tiina Intelmann. They discussed ways in which the EU can support the Upper House in fulfilling its constitutional obligation. Abdi Hashi Abdullahi was re-elected for Senate speaker after trouncing his rival challengers Minister of Information and Culture Osman Dubbe and Salah Jamaa in the 1st round. Hashi received 28 votes flooring his closest contender Salah Jama who received 24 votes. Minister of Information and Culture Osman Dubbe came a distant third. EU's Special envoy for Horn of Africa Annette Weber landed in the National capital Mogadishu on Wednesday morning. She becomes the highest-ranking EU official to visit Somalia since the collapse of former central government in 1991 which led to decades of civil war. She also held meeting with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud at Villa Somalia where they discussed strengthening EU-Somalia relations. Among those in attendance were; Senator Mohamed Ali Yussuf   "Gagaab" and the Secretary General of the Senate and his Deputy.
