Young female officer Samir Nassir appointed as Shibis district police commissioner.
Samira Nasir has been appointed as the new Commissioner in charge of Shibis police station in Mogadishu. Nasir, a youthful young female officer, was appointed to the office on May 22. It is the first time for a woman to be appointed to such a top position in Mogadishu and also Somalia. Ms Samir thanked Somali Police Chief Gen. Abdi Hassan Hijaar for the appointment and promised to endeavour to execute her asssifned responsibility with dignity and professionalism. The 23 year old officer said it was her passion to one day become a police officer and help her fellow citizens. Samir who grew in Norway said she feels very happy when she sees the locals going about their businesses daily In Somalia, it is very rare for a woman to serve in such a post due to the conservative Somali culture that deters girls and women to serve in leadership positions. In the recent presidential election held in Mogadishu, the only female candidate Fowzia Yussuf could not even secure more than her vote.
