Somali National Army SNA arrest a ringleader of Al-Shabab in Marka town, Lower Shabelle region
Somali National Army (SNA) forces in Marka, Lower Shabelle region, have arrested one of the masterminds of the terror group Al-Shabaab. Addressing the Press, Commander of SNA’s October 14th Brigade, Colonel Abdirahman Mohamed Munye, confirmed the arrest of Aweys Mayow Eelay, who is accused of plotting a number of attacks and bombings by Al-Shabaab in Marka town. Munye said that the suspect had been nabbed during a sting operation, adding that at the time of his arrest, the suspect was busy planting roadside bombs in Marka Ade, purposed at causing harm to local officials and civilians. Later, the security forces conducted a raid at his home where they recovered a cache of weapons including grenades and landmines which were taken away by the security forces. The SNA Chief said the operation to hunt down members of the outlawed Al-Shabab insurgents will go on in areas under the Lower Shabelle region. Al-Shabaab has been carrying out attacks and planting landmines in Lower Shabelle region where a number of civilians and local government officials were either hsrmed ot killed. The Al-Qaeda linked group is trying to topple the UN backed Federal government of Somalia and impose its own strict interpretation of the Islamic law.
