South West State President Abdiaziz Lafta-Garen returns to Baidoa town

Somalia's Southwest State President Abdiaziz Hassan Lafta-Garen has on Thursday returned to the interim capital of Baidoa. The regional State leader has been in the capital Mogadishu since early this month where the Presidential election was taking place. Lafta-Garen and his high delegation were received at the airport in Baidoa by senior government officials from the State administration and security officials. During his stay, Lafta-Garen held a series of meetings with dozens of Presidential Candidates who paid him a courtesy visit at his official residence in Mogadishu. He has been a stauch ally of President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo. South West State produced the highest number of elected lawmakers in the Federal parliament. On his last day in Mogadishu, he held meeting with President-elect Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. Mohamud defeated the incumbent President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo in the Sunday's Presidential election held behind blast walls at Afisyoni tent near Mogadishu's Aden Abdulle International Airport. South West State is one of the regional Members States grappling with a high number of people who have been severely affected by the ongoing devastating drought.  It also has a fair share of the Al- Qaeda affiliate group- Al- Shabaab insurgency who control a swathe of land in the State.
