Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble travels to the United Arab Emirates (UAE)

Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has left the country for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Thursday. The outgoing PM travelled to the UAE to deliver and pay condolences on behalf of the Somali government and people following the death of President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Bin Zayed Al Nahyan passed away last week at the age of 73 years. Sheikh Khalifa was the President of the UAE since 2004, but his role had been largely ceremonial since he suffered a stroke in 2014. Sheikh Khalifa was also the ruler of Abu Dhabi, the oil-rich capital of the seven emirates which comprise the UAE. The ministry of presidential affairs declared 40 days of National mourning with flags flying at half-mast from Friday, and workers both in Public and Private were given three days of holiday. Sheikh Khalifa took over as the UAE's second president in November 2004, succeeding his father as the 16th ruler of Abu Dhabi. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was formally elected president on Saturday 14 taking over the mantle from his half - brother Sheikh Khalifa. PM Roble embarked on the visit on the same day that Somali court released the $9.6 million seized from the UAE in 2018. Outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo and Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble have occasionally differed over the release of the money.
