UN Special Representative James Swan meets with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has on Wednesday held meeting with the United Nations Special Representative, James Swan. Swan congratulated President Mohamud on his election victory and return to the top office as Somalia’s 10th President. The two discussed ways in the United Nations can continue supporting Somalia and it's people in the coming years. Mohamud won the election after defeating the incumbent President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo in Sunday's election held behind blast walls at Afisyoni tent in the heavily fortified Halane camp. The United Nations had escalated calls for the speedy completion of the long delayed elections since last year and has been a critical pillar in the successful conclusion of the elections in the Horn of Africa Nation. The UN has been engaged in Somalia since its independence in 1960, undertaking activities that help alleviate poverty and suffering, encourage development, support peacebuilding and security and mitigate the effects of the conflict on the Somali people.
