Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble receives former ONLF commander Qalbidagah at his office.

Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has on Thursday welcomed in his office prominent ONLF Commander and former member of Somali National Army Abdikarim Qalbi-Dhagah who was unlawfully detained and extradited to Ethiopia in 2017.

The Prime Minister apologized to Qalbidhagah  on behalf of the administration and awarded him the National Flag.

“Honoured to welcome to my office Abdikarin (Qalbi-Dhagax), a Somali hero & a former army office. On behalf of our Nation, I once again apologize to him for being treacherously handed over to a foreign country, to atone for misdeeds of previous administration” said PM Roble. Qalbidagax was received at Aden Abdulle International Airport by Federal Ministers led by interior minister Abdullahi Mohamed Nur ,MPs, and other senior government officials. In a cabinet meeting on January 24, 2022 Somali Cabinet rescinded decision by the Federal government to extradite Abdikarim Sheikh Muse alias Qalbidhagah in 2017 and termed it a breach of the terms of Somalia’s provisional constitution, especially its fourth article and the provisions of the Somalia penal code. The cabinet also reiterated that Somalia has no extradition treaty with Ethiopia therefore rendering the rendition of Muse to Ethiopia an illegitimate act. “Therefore, the federal government of Somalia fully apologises to Abdikarim Sheikh Muse alias Qalbidhagah for the wrong action against him,” the cabinet said. The cabinet also lifted terror tag on ONLF saying it no longer recognizes the movement as a terror outfit. Qalbidagah was blindfolded and extradited to Ethiopia by Somali Federal government in 2017 after the Somali parliament voted for and cabinet approved it thereafter. However, his rendition elicited various reactions from across different quarters.
