At least 3 killed, eight injured after an explosion at a restaurant in Mogadishu’s Lido Beach
At least three people were killed and eight others injured after an explosion at a newly opened restaurant in Mogadishu’s Liido Beach in Abdiaziz District according to police spokesperson.
The explosion took place when a suicide bomber wearing explosive vest blew himself up at the recently opened Pescatore Sea Food Restaurant.
Speaking to the media, Somali Police Spokesman Abdifatah Aden said among those killed included officers on Friday night attack.
“I hereby confirm to the Somali people that we have ended the siege after gunfight with the fighters,” Somali police spokesman said.
Among the dead is the Chief security officer for the police chief Abukar Arab Bashir.
Somalia Police Chief Gen Abdi Hassan Hijaar and some other members of the Federal Parliament were having Iftar in one of the hotels near the vicinity of the explosion.
According to Somali government spokesman Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimu the police boss has been rescued and is safe at his home.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but Al-Shabab often takes credit for attacks targeted at government officials, UN, Security forces and ATMIS ex AMISOM.
The militants have frequently targeted hotels, restaurants and cafes in Mogadishu, which are patronised by the political and security elite.
