Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble receives British ambassador to Somalia Kate Foster

Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has today received in his office the UK ambassador to Somalia Kate Foster. They discussed ongoing parliamentary elections, latest attacks in Mogadishu and Beledweyne, humanitarian situation and emergency drought response in the country. Ambassador Kate paid tribute to the people who were killed in Mogadishu and Beledweyne towns attacks and reiterated the British government committment to standing by and bolstering its relations with the country in combatting against terrorism.. PM Roble has assured the UK envoy that the ongoing parliamentary elections will be concluded very soon so as to move to the next phase of elections. Somalia is yet to conclude House of People elections which began last year and have been marred by widespread claims of malpractices and electoral riggings. Puntland, Galmudug, SouthWest States and the Banadiri caucus have already wrapped up their elections and handed over the credentials and files of the elected lawmakers to the Federal Electoral body. Hirshabelle and Jubbaland States are continuing to grapple with wrapping up the elections which have faced hurdles specially in the towns of Beledweyne and Garbaharey. Jubbaland State is yet to announce the electoral schedule of the 16 seats in Garbaharey town which has been a centre of controversy between the regional State and Federal government. This even as IMF and the international community continue to pile pressure on the Somali government to complete elections on time to avert further crisis.
