President Farmaajo holds meeting with top security commanders and instructs them to strengthen security in the country

Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has on Saturday held meeting with the Mayor of Mogadishu Omar Mohamud Omar Filish, top security commanders of the Armed forces, police and correctional services at the Presidential palace. The President listened to reports from the commanders of the preliminary intelligence reports and investigation into the terrorists attacks that took place in Mogadishu and Beledweyne towns on Wednesday. President Farmaajo urged the security chiefs to keep vigilance of impending terror attacks in the country and enhance surveillance to protect the lives and property of the common people. "We are at war with a ruthless enemy that threatens our security and existence. The Al Shabaab terror group we are fighting are working to butcher our Somali people wherever they have the opportunity, so we must always be on high alert, keep vigilance and work closely with our people who support you with intelligence," said President Farmajo. President Farmaajo's meeting with top security bosses comes amid heightened attacks by Al-Shabaab militant group in the capital and across the five regional States. The Al-Qaeda affiliate group claimed responsibility for the attacks both in Mogadishu's Halane camp and Beledweyne town. Dozens of people were killed in Beledweyne on Wednesday including outspoken MP Amina Mohamed Abdi who was seeking re-election in the forthcoming 11th parliament and injured multiple others. Al-Shabab insurgents who control large swathe of lands in central and Southern Somalia is seeking to overthrow the internationally backed Federal government of Somalia and impose a strict interpretation of the Islamic Sharia.
