Minister Beileh Meets US Officials In Washington

Somali Minister of Finance, Abdirahman Duale Beileh has met in the United States, Washington with officials from the US Treasury Department and the State Department to discuss Somalia's economic situation, debt relief program and support for Somalia's economic recovery. According to the finance minister, the conference discussed the importance of completing the country's elections to strengthen the ongoing reforms in the ongoing financial system and to achieve the completion of the Somalia Debt Forgiveness program at the Completion Point. ''I had meetings with colleagues from the Treasury Department, Department of State and USAID yesterday as part of my visit to the USA'' adding ''We discussed the status of Somalia's economic reform program and way forward. The USA is a valuable partner in and supporter of our national development journey.'' He stated that he also focused on issues related to the Somali Government's efforts to reform and streamline the country's financial management system. Officials from the US Treasury Department and the State Department have pledged to work with the Federal Government of Somalia on economic development and ongoing financial reform. The conference was also attended by members of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), which carries out various projects in Somalia on good governance, education and job creation.
