Former Somali President Sheikh Shariff Sheikh Ahmed on Thursday held meeting at the US Embassy in the capital Mogadishu with US Ambassador to Somalia Larry E. André. The both sides discussed at length security, political situation, challenges and completion of the ongoing Lower House elections in the country. In a statement on his official Facebook page, Shariff said they discussed a number of key issues among them being ongoing parliamentary elections and the security situation adding that he thanked the US government for the unwavering support of peace building and democratic process to Somalia. Ambassador Larry also met with Abdikarim Hussein Guled, a presidential candidate and talked about elections and future of Somalia. According to a statement carried on his Twitter handle, Abdikarim said their discussions focused on bilateral relations between the two countries. "Had a productive meeting with the new @US2Somalia Ambassador Larry Andre today. Focused on the bilateral relations between the two nations, the elections, and issues related to the future of #Somalia. Our meeting ended with success and mutual understanding." said Guled. Somalia is yet to conclude elections which have missed deadline for the fourth time this year after the National Consultative Council Assembly pushed back the completion deadline to 15th March following failure by the regional States to conclude elections in the stipulated and agreed timeline of February 25th. US government in a statement last month said it had imposed sanctions on a number of Somali leaders who have failed to conclude elections on time but did not divulge names of the Somali officials.
