Somalia's South West State President Abdiaziz Hassan Lafta-Garen on Tuesday held a meeting at the State House in Baidoa with a high delegation from the United Nations led by Deputy Special Representative for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) Anita Kiki Gbeho.
The two sides discussed the drought, ongoing parliamentary elections in the country and the current security situation in the country.
They discussed at length on ways of curbing and mitigate the effects of the ongoing drought which has severely affected South West State and how the United Nations can chip in relief and response efforts towards alleviating the biting effects of the drought which continues to claim the lives of people and livestock.
The ongoing displacement of Dinsoor town was also deliberated as people continue to flee from their homes in search of pasture for their animals and food for themselves and the debilitating security situation in the town.
The UN delegation applauded South West State towards ensuring that the ongoing Lower House elections in the State are completed as soon as possible and the steps taken by the State in acting in compliant with the September 2020 agreement which spelled out the holding of elections in two voting centres are adhered to and met.
