Somali Government Spokesperson Moalimu cleared to contest for parliamentary seat

Somali Government spokesperson Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimuu has been cleared to contest for the upcoming Lower House elections which are scheduled to be held in the town of Beledweyne in the coming days. Moalimu who returned back to the country on Wednesday from Istanbul Turkey where he has been receiving treatment for injuries he sustained from a suicide bombing that targeted him was awarded his certificate of candidacy by Hirshabelle State Electoral body. 11 other candidates received their certificate of candidacy to run for various parliamentary seats on Saturday. Moalimuu is a veteran journalist who previously worked with BBC Somali as a reporter stationed in the capital Mogadishu and also served as Secretary General of the National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) before he was given his current post as a Somali Government Spokesperson last year. He escaped unhurt several bombing and attacks and was wounded when suicide bomber wearing explosive vest detonated himself in to his vehicle along Makkah Al Mukarama road on January 16. Moalimuu was airlifted to Turkey for specialized treatment where he was close to 38 days being treated for his injuries.
