Jubbaland State elects five MPs in Kismayo as deadline for completion of Parliamentary elections beckons

Jubbaland State Elections Implementation Team has today conducted the elections of five seats of the House of People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia in Kismayo as the deadline for the completion of Parliamentary elections inches closer. The first seat of HOP#072 was contested by the long serving MP Abdirashid Mohamed Hidig and Abdisamad Mohamed Abdullahi however Abdirashid Mohamed Hidig retained the seat after receiving 75 votes against 18 votes of his closest challenger Abdisamad Abdullahi. HOP#130 which was occupied by former Minister of Trade Mohamed Diriye ( Shakuut) was bagged by Mowlid Abdi Mohamud. The Third seat of HOP#079 was won by Mohamud Muhumed Omar ( Kulow) who garnered 74 votes against his competitor Bashir Nuur Dhuumal who got 21 votes. The Fourth seat of HOP#112 seat which was being occupied by Abdiaziz Abdullahi Mohamed ( Hukun) was clinched by Abdikadir Mohamed Waceys. The last seat of HOP#136 was clinched by Omar Yussuf Qaladiid who received 82 votes against his closest competitor Abdiaziz Omar Maalim who garnered 17 votes. Jubbaland is the only State which has not yet announced the election schedule of its second voting constituency in Garbaharey that has been at the centre of controversy between President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and the State leader Ahmed Mohamed Islam Ahmed Madobe.
  • The administration said in a statement last week that it can not hold elections in Gedo region due to heavy presence of National Intelligence officers and since the region is out of its control.
