Two of Puntland presidential guards killed and four others injured in landmine explosion in Bosaso

Two soldiers have been killed and two others sustained wounds after a landmine explosion hit a military convoy escorting Puntland State President Said Abdullahi Deni at the enterance of the commercial town of Bosaso on Monday. The president through a statement posted on his official Facebook page, confirmed the death of the two presidential guards describing them as heroes who put their lives on the line in protecting their country. President Deni also conveyed his condolences to the families and friends and to the entire Presidential guard team on the unprecedented death of their loved ones and colleagues and prayed to Allah to grant them the highest rank of paradise. " I would like to express my condolences to the entire Presidential guard and regular forces on the death of the two presidential details who have lost their lives today in a landmine explosion in Bosaso town and prey to Allah to admit them in paradise." said the President. Deni said that such attacks on his entourage will not deter them from executing their mandate in defending the regional State of Puntland and will continue to make progress, further assuring the State that the enemy will soon be brought to book. Al-Qaeda-affiliated militant group- al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack saying they targeted the regional leader but he narrowly escaped unhurt. This is the second attack happening in a week in the port city of Bosaso after another one on Saturday killed two prominent elders. The two soldiers have since been identified as Abdullahi Mohamed Shafici and Mohamed Ahmed Abdullahi. Bosaso is holding elections of 16 parliamentary seats of the House of People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia and has in November witnessed deadly clashes between Puntland regular forces supporting president Said Abdullahi Deni and US trained PSF forces allied to sacked Commandant Mohamed Osman Diyano.
