Puntland Military court sentences four people over killing of journalist Jamal Farah

Puntland Military court has sentenced two men to death by a firing squad and two others to various jail terms over the death of prominent journalist Jamal Farah in Galkacayo town on March 1st between Puntland and Galmudug borders. A statement issued by the military court said that Adde Abdullahi Mohamed and Abdiqani Saleban Jama alias Saylor were both handed a death sentence after confessing to the killing of the journalist which had attracted a public outrage. Documents obtained from the court revealed that Abdiqani Saylor confessed before the court that he would be paid $ 50 for each murder he executed including that one of slain journalist. Hassan Jama Mohamed and Mohamed Ali Ahmed (Qaroon) were sentenced to 25 and 15-year prison terms respectively for being accomplices of the killing of Jamal. The ruling of the court comes weeks after the court pronounced a similar ruling on young stars who admitted to carrying out series of killings and attacks in Puntland State. The slain journalist was killed on March 1st by members of Al- Shabaab militant.The group later claimed responsibility for the killing of the journalist.
