PM Abiy Ahmed visits Somali regional State of Ethiopia and pledges to bolster humanitarian assistance
Ethiopia Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and a high-level delegation this morning arrived at Jigjiga International Airport where they were received by Somali Regional State president President Mustafe Omar. Abiy Ahmed later visited Qabribayah in the Somali regional States which hosts a number of a drought affected people who were displaced from various areas in the region. According to a statement posted on his Twitter account, PM Abiy promised to scale up the provision of water trucks, food animal feed and essential medicine. "We visited Kabribayah this morning, which is one of many host communities in the Somali Regional State supporting drought affected displaced persons. In the interim, we will scale the provision of water trucks, food, animal feed and essential medicines. 1/2" he said. He also pledged to accelerate the dams projects started by his administration to avail water to people living in the low land areas of the region. "We will accelerate the small dams projects we have embarked upon to support water management in lowland areas, as a pathway to circumventing future droughts. 2/2" he added. Somali region of Ethiopia is one of the worst areas affected by the ongoing devastating drought which has claimed the lives of livestock and sparked huge displacement of people from their native areas to seek food and water for their lives.
