Newly appointed US ambassador to Somalia arrives in Moqadishu
The new US Ambassador to Somalia, Larry Andre has on Monday landed in the capital Mogadishu following his appointment by President Joe Biden and approval by the US Senate in a vote .US embassy in a statement on Monday said that he is eager to work with Somali government and its people. “We are pleased to announce the arrival of Ambassador Larry André. He is eager to work in partnership with the Somali people and their state and federal governments to advance our shared objective of Somalia’s revival as a secure, prosperous, and democratic nation,” read the statement. Larry, 60, is a decorated career diplomat with vast significant experience in Africa and had previously served as an Ambassador to Djibouti and Mauritania. President Biden had appointed Larry Andre on April 15, 2021 after the axing of Donald Yamamoto who served as the ambassador to Somalia since November 2018. He takes over from Colleen Crenwelge, who was in an acting capacity following the removal of Donald Yamamoto in 2021 by the Biden administration.
