Thousands of protestors in Hargeisa take to the streets in support of UK parliament debate
Thousands of demonstrators today gathered at Freedom Park in the Somaliland's capital Hargeisa to show their support for the UK parliament debate on recognition of Somaliland as an independent country. The demonstrators who were seen carrying placards and waving the Somaliland flags were led by Vice President and other senior local government officials. This even as the breakway Somaliland region called on the Federal government of Somalia to desist from engaging and meddling in its internal affairs saying such move will further escalate the frosty relations between Hargeisa and Mogadishu. The statement by the Somaliland comes after Somalia government through the Minister for Planning Jamal Mohamed on Twitter scoffed at the Mp Gavin Williamson for tabling a motion in Parliament to have Somalil by UK Minister for Africa Affairs in response to the motion said that it is upon the two entities to decide on their fate. "Adjournment debate in @HouseofCommons underlines consistent UK government position on Somaliland status. It is for SL & Federal Gov of Somalia to decide their future. We continue to cooperate with Fed Gov of Somalia & SL on democracy, security & prosperity." said Vicky. Somaliland continues to agatitate for international recognition as they argue that the have established their own government system, force, constitution and passport.
