HirShabelle bans shipment of weapons in Jowhar and Beledweyne airports
The HirShabelle regional administration has issued an order prohibiting the carrying of weapons in Beledweyne and Jowhar as a safety precaution ahead of Lower House polls. In a statement, HirShabelle's Ministry of Security said that the state would bar firearms from being carried in public. The ministry said the move was made in a bid to curb insecurity and safeguard the integrity of the Lower House elections set to begin in the coming days. According to the statement, the directive will take effect on January 15, 2021. The statement further said anyone caught carrying firearms will be arrested. The statement comes as the regional state Hirshabelle State Electoral Implementation Team (SEIT) announced 11 seats for the House of People in the Federal Parliament of Somalia.
