Somalia Evacuates Close To 100 Somalis Detained In Libya
The Somali government Wednesday evacuated close to 100 migrants from Libya who had been detained in areas controlled by militia. The latest evacuation of 97 Somalis who have been returned by the government launched the return-to-home exercise backed by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the EU. Foreign Minister Abdi Said Muse Ali, IOM officials and other senior government officials who received the returnees at the airport in Mogadishu said the registration and repatriation of other Somalis still stranded in Libya are still ongoing. He said they have managed to bring back 97 Somalis who had been registered. ''We welcomed 97 Somalis at Aden Adde International Airport this morning, as the Federal Government worked to secure their release. FGS has been working hard to return citizens who have suffered in foreign countries,'' foreign affairs minister Abdisaid said. Across the country, IOM facilitates the transition of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and refugees towards a durable solution by providing services and support for Migrants and Mobile Populations (MMPs) with a special focus on women, youth and host communities.
