President Farmajo Calls For Urgent Implementation Of New Election Deal
Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo called for urgent implementation of the poll talks outcome agreed on Sunday by the Prime Minister and regional leaders.
Addressing the nation on Monday night, President Farmajo reiterated that the National Consultative Council is responsible for implementing the election and has urged them to follow the new election deal. ''I welcome the outcome of the National Consultative meeting after days of talks by the leaders.
I urged them to implement the deal they agreed on urgently,'' Farmaajo said.
The President praised the sacrifices made by the armed forces in defending the country and their fight against Al-Shabaab militants.
The president urged citizens for unity and solidarity as the key to the existence and national strength and noted the role of Somali youth in the unity, governance and defence of the country.
The address by the president came a day after the prime minister and the regional state leaders announced they struck a deal to complete parliamentary elections by February 25.
The agreement was reached after several days of talks by Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble with state leaders aimed at ending an impasse over the polls..
