Somali National Army (SNA) forces killed 25 Al-Shabaab militants in security after a heavy gunfight with the militants on Monday. The SNA said it foiled an attack by the militant group on the town of Adakibir in the country’s Galgadud region. “Somali National Army and Galmudug regional forces have gallantly repulsed an attack by Alshabab on Adakibir town in Galgadud region, killing 21 terrorists,” SNA said. They said dozens of militants were also killed in the fighting. The attack has also claimed the life of the commander SNA's 13th Battalion of 21st Division, Ali Cagaweyn were killed. The militant group has claimed killing ten soldiers in the attack. Al-Shabab militants have intensified their attacks in Somalia despite intensive operations by government forces against the extremists in central and southern regions in recent months. The group was driven from the capital Mogadishu by SNA backed by the African Union Mission in Somalia in 2011, but they are still capable of conducting attacks, targeting government installations, hotels, restaurants and public places.
