Somalia, US Discuss Bolstering Cooperation
Somalia Defense minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur has held talks with acting US ambassador to Somalia Colleen Crenwelge on Monday in Mogadishu. According to the defence minister, he discussed bolstering cooperation and capacity building for Somali soldiers in fighting insurgency acting US ambassador to Somalia Colleen Crenwelge. ''Today, acting US Amb. to Somalia, Colleen Crenwelge and I had a meeting and discussed matters of mutual cooperation between our two countries on capacity development of soldiers and the fight against terror,'' he said. The minister thanked and lauded the US government for its support to the Somali government. Mr Abdulkadir was accompanied by officials from the defence ministry. The U.S. has been training and providing support to the Somali military since 2013. Among troops trained by the US is Danab special forces which are currently about 1,400 military personnel, has bases in southern and central Somalia. In addition to training, the U.S. has been carrying out airstrikes against al-Shabab militants in support of the Somali government.
