Fighting Erupts Between Puntland Forces In Bosaso

Skirmishes have once again erupted Saturday evening between rival forces in the port city of Bossaso in Puntland State. According to residents, forces led by the current Puntland security forces director Brigadier General Mohamed Amin and those loyal to former PSF director Mohamoud Osman Diyano exchanged heavy gunfights heavy exchange of gunfire between the two antagonising sides led to many confirmed deaths and injuries. Speaking to VOA Somali service, Bari Regional Police Commander Colonel Abdulkadir Jama Dirir said that one soldier was killed and another wounded in the clashes which took place near Cowska camp in Bossaso. He said that an investigation has been launched to arrest those behind the fighting. ''We are currently investigating what caused the fighting and those who ignited the skirmishes will be arrested and appear before the court,'' said Dirir. The latest reports indicated that the fighting had abated in the commercial town which is some 1500 kilometres northeast of Mogadishu. This comes barely a couple of weeks after Puntland president Said called for a ceasefire after days of fighting between the forces in the PSF was established to fight militants and are mainly stationed in the mountainous area of the Bari region.
