Police Seize Bhang, Illicit Alcohol In Mogadishu
Somali Police have discovered Cannabis plant and a large amount of illicit alcohol in a planned operation on Saturday night. The operation led by Howlwadaag district police commissioner, Najib Arab was conducted in Mogadishu's Howlwadaag district after a tip-off from residents in the area. ''These drugs have destroyed many families and those who survive are not able to carry on with their normal duties. This is why we should all join hands to eradicate the illicit alcohol,” Najib Arab said. He appealed to the public to give information on any person dealing with illegal drugs in the area, saying most people had turned to illegal dens after the government destroyed shops in the town selling drugs. One person was arrested in the operation according to the district police commissioner. He noted that the police officers would continue carrying operations with an aim of arresting those involved and arraign them in court. The operation comes amid heightened operations against illicit alcohol in Mogadishu. The government has in the past month destroyed over 20 shops selling drugs and arrested dozens of people.
