Jubaland and Puntland Back PM Roble's Decision To Return Seized Funds To UAE Government
The Presidents of Puntland and Jubbaland have welcomed the move by Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble to re-establish diplomatic relations and cooperation between Somalia and the United Arab Emirates. The two presidents also lauded the Prime Minister for acknowledging and apologizing for the seizure of funds by the Somali government at Aden Adde International Airport in April 2018. "We commend the Prime Minister for acknowledging and apologizing for the April 2018 mistake against our brotherly government in the United Arab Emirates,'' said Puntland president, Said Abdullahi Deni. ''We are grateful to the UAE Government for its assistance to the Somali people affected by the drought and we hope that relief will reach the entire country," he added. On Friday night, Somali president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo ordered the Governor of the Central Bank of Somalia, not to allow withdrawal of 'illicit' $ 9.6m money which was seized by Somali Security forces on 8th April 2018 in Mogadishu. The move by the president come hours after the premier apologized to the UAE for the seizure of the funds and promised to return the money to the UAE government.
