Somalia shuts down UN airport terminal in Mogadishu

The Somalia government has closed down the Movcon terminal, a special terminal that is used by the United Nations staff and other foreign visitors in Mogadishu.

In a letter dated 23, December 2021, Aden Adde international Airport deputy general manager cited violation of immigration protocols. ''As per the letter issued by the ministry of foreign affairs please note that the Movcon terminal is closed until further notice,'' read part of the letter.

The deputy general manager alleged that the terminal was used by non-UN and AMISOM travellers and UN contractors exploit to smuggle uncontrolled commodities.

The letter added that both UN and AMISOM staff will use Adan Adde International Airport VIP lounge and the main terminal The move comes barely a week after United Nations Security Council extend the mandate of the AMISOM by three months.  .
