Farmaajo Travels To Doha For Talks With Qatar's Emir
Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has travelled to Doha, Qatar on Monday for a State visit upon the invitation of the Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
President Farmaajo is one of several leaders invited to attend the inauguration of FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021, which is commencing on November, 30 in Qatar.
''H.E Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has today travelled to Doha Qatar for a State visit upon the invitation of the Emir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.'' President Farmaajo's spokesman Abdirashid Hashi said.
''The President has also been invited alongside Arab leaders to grace the opening of FIFA Arab Cup to promote integration and cooperation for the prosperity,'' he added.
The president's trip to Doha comes at a time the Horn African nation is holding parliamentary elections.
Doha has invested considerable effort into meddling in Somalia’s internal politics and has bolstered its own candidates in Somali elections.
In both the 2012 and 2017 elections, Qatari money allegedly played a decisive role in influencing the outcomes.
In recent years, Qatar has taken a more prominent role in positioning itself as the main backer of the current Somali president.
