Clan Elder Shot Dead In Mogadishu
Gunmen shot dead a top clan leader in the capital Mogadishu on Tuesday night. Mohamed Hassan Nur was shot several times in the head by men armed with pistols inside his home in Mogadishu's Yaqshid district. Mohamed reportedly died before he was rushed to the hospital. Somali police have reached the scene and taken the body for investigation, however, no suspect was arrested in connection with the murder. No group has claimed responsibility for the murder of the elder but Al Shabaab militants have in the past killed clan elders who participated in the election process. The killing of the elder comes as the country early this month kicked off electing lawmakers for its lower house of parliament. The lawmakers are elected by clan elders and while the five state legislatures elect senators for the 54-member upper house.
