AMISOM Envoy Simon Mulongo speaks out on Somalia expulsion
The deputy head of Somalia’s African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom) deputy Simon Mulongo has responded following the government announcement to leave the country in seven days. In a phone interview with Daily Newspaper, his expulsion came as a surprise to him. “The language used in Somalia government’s diplomatic note contains block phrases whose details and meaning I don’t know,'' Mulongo told Daily Newspaper via phone call. On Thursday foreign affairs ministry indicated that Mulongo had been declared persona non grata and ordered to leave Mogadishu within 7 days. AMISOM military component has aided Somali national security forces in driving out the al-Qaeda-affiliated armed group al-Shabab from most of the major cities and towns of southern Somalia.
