Sports Ministry Rejects Re-election Of National Olympic Committee President
Somalia's Ministry of Youth and Sports has on Friday rejected the re-election of the President of the Somali National Olympic Committee (NOC).
In a statement the ministry appointed a committee to advise on the elections held by the committee, which the ministry said violated the law.
“Unfortunately, the Somali National Olympic Committee on Wednesday re-elected the president while ignoring the statement of the Ministry of Youth and Sports,”
The ministry said it had no information of the committee election which saw Abdullahi Ahmed Tarabi re-elected as President of the Somali National Olympic Committee.
Tarabi was first elected as NOC President in 2013 at a meeting in the capital Mogadishu.
In the elections held on Wednesday by the committee Ahmed Abdi Hassan Wata was elected as first vice-president to support Tarabi.
