Somali FM Meets With French UN ambassador over election security

Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Abdirizak Mohamud met with France's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Nicolas De Reviere in the United States capital Washington DC. The two officials discussed the importance of holding the elections on time and handing over responsibility for security to the Somali National Army through the full implementation of the transition plan and the reform of the Armed Forces. ''Discussion today with Minister Abdirizak of Somalia on the importance of organising elections within the agreed timelines and on the transfer of security responsibilities to Somalia through a full implementation of the transition plan and a reconfiguration of AMISOM,'' said Nicolas de Rivière, France's Permanent Representative to the UN. France's Permanent Representative to the United Nations also called on Somali leaders to end the next election process, which needs to be transparent. Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Abdirizak Mohamud thanked the Ambassador for his support to the Somali people and state-building in Somalia. There are growing calls from the international community for Somali leaders to complete Somalia's elections as soon as possible this year.
