Senior Al Shabaab Operative Turns Himself Over To Somali National Army
The Somali National Army’s 60th division has paraded a senior Al Shabaab operative after turning himself over to the government forces. Mohamed Nur Mohammed alias Guudow was a senior Al-Shabaab operative in charge of collecting Zakat, according to the Somalia National Army Unit who received the defector in Deeynuunay, Baay region.
The commander of the 8th Infantry Brigade of the 60th division of the Somali National Army, Maj. Mohamed Nur Mad, said the operative had been an active member of the militant group Al-Shabaab for the last seven years. He added that the defector has been carrying out operations in Dadaarow, Bay region.
While speaking to the media, Mohammed Gudow, the Al-Shabaab defector, said lack of justice and curtailment of freedom of expression and the harsh consequences one gets if they talk about it, encouraged him to leave Al Shabaab.
The Commander of the 8th Infantry Brigade of the 60th Division of the Somali National Army, Maj. Mohamed Nur Mad, said the government forces are carrying out operations to flush out Al Shabaab from Deynuunaay and the surrounding towns and villages.
The Somali National Army’s 60th division has in the past also paraded high ranking members of the militant group Al Shabaab after defecting and turning themselves in.
