Several Mortar Shells Hit Jowhar
Several mortar shells hit parts of the Jowhar city about 90 kilometres from Mogadishu on Saturday night. The mortars hit areas near the Hir-Shabelle Presidential Palace, UNICEF compound and Sheikh Hanafi School and other areas in Horseed & Hantiwadaag neighbourhoods of Jowhar town. In a statement, Hir-Shabelle state security ministry said that there were no casualties and the security forces thwarted mortar shells that were fired by Al-Shabaab militants. "On Saturday night, al-Shabaab tried to obstruct the capital Hirshabelle of Jowhar firing rounds of shells, no one has been injured,'' read part of the statement. The incident comes as the regional state is set to hold Hirshabelle senatorial elections. On Friday night, three Hirshabelle regional state legislators were injured after they were targeted with a bomb at their residence destroying part of their house.
