Puntland state deploys forces to fight Al-Shabaab in Galmudug
Puntland state has sent unspecified numbers of troops into Galmudug state to help fight against al-Shabaab militants.
Abdullatif Muse Nuru, Puntland’s Mudug region governor said the troops were deployed to weed out the militants in Amaara town.
“We have sent troops to Galmudug who know how to fight Al-Shabaab and it is an alliance to eradicate Al-Shabaab,” Abdullatif said.
On his part, Galmudug’s Deputy Security Minister, Abdulahi Abdisalan said that Galmudug state asked its neighbouring state to take part in the operations against the group.
“Since Puntland….has experience in fighting al Shabaab, we have asked them to help us expel Al Shabaab,” Abdisalan said.
Puntland state last week handed over one ambulance, a water tanker and other military vehicles to Galmudug State to support the security operations against the Al-Shabaab group in the Mudug region.
Last Tuesday, heavily armed Al-Shabaab fighters stormed SNA military base in Amaara town, prompting long hours of fighting with the Somali military.
