SNA Claims 90 Al-Shabaab Militants Killed In Airstrike
Somali National Army (SNA) has claimed that at least 90 Al-Shabaab fighters were killed in an airstrike in central Somalia on Tuesday.
In a brief statement, the Somali military said the militants were killed in an airstrike conducted in the vicinity of Amaara town.
''Al-Shabaab militants tried to storm the forces in Amaara town but faced heavy loss. 90 militants were also killed in an airstrike conducted late afternoon,'' SNA said in a Twitter post.
Somali military jointly recaptured the town of Amaara after a heavy gunfight with Al-Shabab militants on Tuesday.
According to residents, two civilians and three soldiers were killed and six others were injured during the heavy gunfight.
Al-Qaeda Affiliated Al-Shabaab group is fighting to unseat the federal government based in the capital Mogadishu for over a decade.
The group lost control of major cities but they still hold some areas conducting hit and run attacks in the capital and neighbouring countries.
