Military court sentences ISIS & Al-Shabaab member to 15 years in prison

A Somali military court has sentenced a man to 15 years in prison for being a member of Al-Shabaab and in charge of finance for the ISIS group in Somalia. The man, identified as Abdirizak Mohamed Abdi Jimale, has been a member of al-Shabab and ISIS since 2008. He received his first training in Jilib, as part of a militia that attacked Mogadishu at the beginning of the transitional government, during which he was wounded in fighting in Mogadishu between the government and al-Shabaab. Abdirizak Mohamed Abdi Jimale defected to ISIS in 2016 and received links to Bilal Sudani, a former al-Shabaab member, according to a military court statement. The prosecutor's office said in 2019-2020 Abdirizak transferred $ 400,000 to South Africa. He was arrested by National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) in March 2021 with 19,000 US dollars.
