Somalia Logs 136 New COVID-19 Cases
Somalia has confirmed 136 new COVID-19 cases in the last 48 hours, bringing the national tally to 16,535, the country's health ministry said Thursday. A total of 2,666 samples were tested across the country in the past 48 hours, and the latest confirmed cases were all local infections, the ministry said in a brief statement. Meanwhile, five more deaths were recorded, taking the total death toll to 897, it said. The ministry said 41 patients recovered from the virus bringing the total number of recoveries to 8,010. Of the new cases, 56 were female while 80 were male. sixty of the new cases were detected in the capital Mogadishu in and has been also detected in Puntland, Somaliland Galmudug, Jubaland and Southwest. On August 8, the horn of African country received more than 300,000 doses of the Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine donated by the U.S. through the international COVAX facility.
