Farmaajo Pledges To Fight Graft As Anti-Corruption Commission Launched

Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has declared 14 August of every year, Somalia’s national anti-corruption day to raise awareness on the effect of corruption in Somalia.

The president made the announcement during a speech at the inauguration of the Independent Anti-Corruption Commission in the capital Mogadishu. ''I am proud of Somalia Anti-Corruption Commission for our nation's historical signatory to global Anti-Corruption Laws and conventions including African Union, Arab League and the United Nations Convention against Corruption,'' Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo said.

Today also marked the inauguration of the Independent anti-corruption commission and launched the ratification of the International and regional conventions against corruption for the first time in 30 years.

Somalia was at the bottom of the standings with 9 / 180 (score/rank) But the federal government dismissed poor rankings on the CPI terming them as “unreliable and falsehood”,.
