Kenya opens new embassy in Somalia
Kenya's Cabinet Secretary of Foreign Affairs Raychelle Omamo officially opened new premises of the Chancery of the Embassy of Kenya's new embassy in Mogadishu Sunday. Somali Foreign Affairs Minister, Kenya's Ambassador to Somalia and the delegation accompanying Raychelle Omamo on her trip to Mogadishu were also present during the opening ceremony. The opening of Kenya's new embassy in Somalia came after a delegation led by CS Omamo held talks with Somali Foreign Affairs Minister Abdirizak Mohamed and Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble. According to a statement from the prime minister’s office, the two East African nations agreed to strengthen their relations especially in the areas of trade and security. In recent months diplomatic relations between the two countries faltered after Somalia accused Kenya of interfering with her internal affairs and subsequently ejected its ambassador and recalled her’s back to Mogadishu. Kenya and Somalia are also currently at the International Court of Justice, (ICJ) over a maritime dispute which both countries lay claim.
