Somaliland Parliament Elects New Speaker
The newly elected Somaliland parliament legislators have elected Abdirisak Khalif after voting in Hargeisa.
Khalif of opposition party Kulmiye won in the voting with 42 votes, beating his closest competitor Yasin Faratoon with 39 votes.
The results were declared by Somaliland’s Chairman of Supreme Court Adam Haji Ali who chairing the first session of the parliament after the oldest MP Yassin Haji Mohamoud declared his candidacy as the speaker of the House of the Representative.
Abdirizak Khalif former Somaliland minister between 2010 to 2017 and as the deputy chairperson of the opposition party, Waddani.
Abdirizak Khalif Ahmed was born in Las Anod in 1967 and received his primary education in the same town.
He received his higher education in southern Somalia.
In 2016, he became the Finance Secretary of the Waddani Party..
