SW Elects First Two Female Senators In Senate Elections

Zamzam Ibrahim Ali and Ayan Aden Abdullahi have been re-elected in today’s senate race in Baidoa to become the first female elected senators in South West State in ongoing Upper House elections in South West.

Zamzam garnered 81 votes defeating Sharifo Haji Osman who secured four votes only Ayan Aden Abdullahi is the second female Senator elected who defeated Farhiya Nur Aden 79 to 8 votes.

Ayan, from Luq town, studied in Somalia and Bangladesh.

She was born in 1991, at the start of civil strife.

Voting is currently underway for the remaining three seats.

South West becomes the second state to elect Senators after Jubaland state.

South West state now becomes the second state to conduct elections which were set to kick off on July 25 according to the elections schedule issued by the Federal Indirect Elections Team (FIET)..
